What does Art is Magic mean to you?

As an artist and teacher, Art is Magic means a lot to me. It's a platform that brings together a diverse and inclusive community of artists who share a passion for learning and exploring new techniques. To me, art is magic because it has the power to transform, inspire, and heal.

Through Art is Magic, I've had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who understand the importance of art in our lives and the world around us. It's a place where we can share our knowledge, skills, and experiences with each other and support one another on our creative journeys.

As a teacher, I'm excited to be a part of Make Create Express and share my knowledge and techniques with the Art is Magic community. I believe that teaching is a way to give back to the community and inspire others to create their own magic with their art.

What is currently inspiring you?

Currently, I am deeply inspired by the beauty and symbolism of roses. I have been exploring their form and the relationship between their petals and the abstract ground in my work for the past few years. The complexity of the rose's structure and the way it interacts with light has captured my imagination and challenged me to experiment with new techniques.

The symbolism of roses also inspires me. They have long been associated with love, beauty, and passion, and I find it fascinating to explore these themes in my art. Each rose has its own unique character and energy, and I love the challenge of capturing these qualities in my work.

I find inspiration in other artists as well. I am constantly seeking out new artists and art forms to learn from and incorporate into my own work. I believe that art is a constantly evolving process, and I am always excited to discover new techniques and approaches that challenge and expand my creative vision.

Overall, I am deeply inspired by the beauty and complexity of the natural world, the symbolism of roses, and the endless possibilities of the artistic process.

What does your creative practice look like?

Currently, my creative practice involves working daily in my studio on 14 pieces for an upcoming show in August. I am constantly exploring new ideas and experimenting with composition through collage work. I find that collage is a great way to play with different colors, textures, and shapes and to see how they interact with each other.

In addition to working in the studio, I also devote time to reading and researching about flowers. I find that learning about the history and symbolism of different flowers can help me deepen my understanding of their form and structure, and inspire new ideas for my work.

I believe that creativity is a practice that requires discipline and dedication. Even on days when I don't feel particularly inspired, I make it a point to show up in the studio and do the work. I find that sometimes the best ideas come when I'm in the middle of a creative rut, and the act of working through it can be incredibly rewarding.

Overall, my creative practice involves a mix of experimentation, research, and discipline. I strive to approach my work with curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore new techniques and ideas.

How has your creative process evolved?

Over the years, my creative process has evolved in many ways. One of the biggest changes has been in my approach to discipline. I find that the more disciplined I am with my creative practice, the more I am able to produce and grow as an artist.

In addition to discipline, I have also started to focus more on the fundamentals of art. I have realized that mastering the basics, such as composition, color theory, and value, is essential to creating strong and impactful work. By investing time and energy into these fundamentals, I am able to build a strong foundation for my artistic practice and create work that is both visually stunning and conceptually engaging.

Another way my process has evolved is in my willingness to take risks and experiment with new techniques. I used to be more hesitant to try new things, but I have learned that taking risks is an essential part of the creative process. By stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying new techniques, I am able to push myself creatively and discover new possibilities for my work.

Overall, my process has evolved to be more disciplined, focused on the fundamentals of art, and open to taking risks and exploring new techniques. I believe that these changes have allowed me to grow as an artist and create work that is both meaningful and impactful.
