Meet the Artist- Kristen Fagan
I am a color dripping, flower loving, symbolism obsessed, multi-passionate creatrix.
I am inspired by the natural world and am a lifelong explorer of self-expression. I believe art is an invitation to get to know yourself more deeply. My artwork is full of lush color, joyful energy and the discovery of personal symbols. I am passionate about guiding you to have a more expressive human experience through art making and creative living.
In my creativity groups, Discover Your Creative Magic and the Creative Magic Circle, I hold space for you to tap into the artist within, express your authentic self, and strengthen your intuition to empower the art that is your life.
I was born and raised in New York and moved to the desert over 20 years ago. I have a BFA in Visual Communication and am a certified Creatively Fit Coach. I live in Mesa, Arizona with my husband, our two children and dogs. When I’m not creating I enjoy traveling, dancing, meditation, walks in the desert and relaxing in a hammock.

What does Art is Magic mean to you?
To me, art is magic means that I can say yes to dreaming. I can open myself up to the unknown and explore it wit curiosity. I can be delighted and enchanted by colors, shapes and symbols. Art is magic gives me permission to place my focus on the process of art making because the magic is in the journey.
Why do you create art?
I create art and use the power of creativity as energy healing work. It supports me in claiming the courage to explore and experiment, to make things up and take creative risks. Art shows me how to let go of things that get in the way of my self-expression and in life like perfectionism, comparison and my enoughness. It empowers me to follow my heart and trust that what I create, share and care about matters. It’s helped me to find my community both locally and all over the world. Plus, it’s pure fun!
How do you keep your creative practice fresh and inspired?
I love creative challenges! Stepping out of my comfort zone to create daily for a specified amount of time or spending time getting to know a new material or supply helps to shake things up. Not only do I feel inspired by what I discover, I have also found that I connect with others through the sharing of processes.
Do you have a Creative Self Care Practice?
I have many wonderful creative self care practices that I pull from whenever I’m in a creative rut, life is feeling a bit out of balance or I just need a little inspirational guidance. Some of my favorites are watercolor meditations, morning pages, soul scribbles, oracle card and tarot readings, breathwork, gentle movement and expressive dance.
Do you have any creative rituals?
I love to ground myself in the present moment before I begin creating. This may be an elaborate ritual of meditation, movement and art studio scene setting but, most of the time it’s a simple ritual of three breaths to let go of what was before, anchor in the present moment, and be open to what is to come without judgment. While creating, I often enjoy listening to a music playlist that aligns with my mood or intention for the work I’m doing. This leads to singing and dancing while I paint too. I find such joy in the full expression that opens the heart, mind and soul to the sacred expansiveness of who we truly are.
